In reading The Tri-State Tornado “The Story of America’s Greatest Tornado Disaster”, it is very intriguing to say that there were so many things involved that were not always mentioned before. It is filled with facts and personal experiences according to people who witnessed it happen to their life. The first chapter let alone is captivating in how it goes right in to what this disastrous tornado was really like. Author Peter S. Felknor right away explains how the tornado came to be about. It is stated “A well-developed cyclone, or low-pressure system, moved down from Canada into Western Montana.” (Felknor, Pg. 3) According to Felknor, he explains how the air from the Gulf of Mexico surrounded the High Plains. People were warned the next day that they should prepare basically for only rain and heavy wind. Due to this warning, people were not prepared to find what they would awaken to the very next day. Felknor claims that there wasn’t anything in the area to show signs of this monstrous tornado. The land was not made to show any warning to what would come (Felknor Pg. 3). People went to work and Felknor states “in mere seconds, something resembling a smoky fog came rolling over the hills and swept through Annapolis, taking much of the town away with it and leaving four people dead in what remained.” (Felknor, Pg. 3-4) This sixty mile per hour tornado struck the area with its violent winds and harmful objects that it swept up causing many casualties. This tornado was so unique in how it was more than just one swipe through. It was multiple times the tristate tornado would funnel back together only to cause more homes damaged and people’s lives lost. This however according to Felknor, “was only, a prelude to the horror of the next two hours would bring.” (Felknor, Pg. 5)
